Generally, yes. Suppliers must hold all applicable state and territory licenses required to provide the DMEPOS products they are bidding on. However, exemptions to certain licensure requirements may exist depending on the state or territory, the product category, and specific circumstances (for example, when provided through a mail order system). Just because a license appears in the DMEPOS Licensure Database does not mean it applies universally to every supplier in every situation. Exemptions and special conditions may apply.
It is important to note that DMEPOS Licensure Databases are guides only. Licensing rules can change, and it is your responsibility to ensure your licenses are current and reflected in Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS) by the close of the bid window.
To determine if an exemption applies to a specific license requirement you may consider taking the following steps:
- Consult the applicable DMEPOS Licensure Database maintained and updated by the following National Provider Enrollment Contractors, which lists the licensure requirements associated with each product category and state or territory:
