The Notes section is one of the most important parts of the DMEPOS Licensure Database. It may contain exemptions that could mean a license is not required for your specific supplier type or situation, conditions under which a license requirement is waived or modified, clarifications about who must hold the license such as the business entity versus an individual practitioner, state or territory-specific rules that differ from general requirements, and other critical compliance information. Failure to read the Notes section could result in incorrectly:
- Assuming a license is required
- Assuming one is not required, which could jeopardize your bid eligibility
- For instance, Colorado does not require a license for suppliers in Medicare's National Mail Order Program, however, this exemption only applies to that exact program name. Round 2028’s program called a "Nationwide Remote Item Delivery Program" would not qualify for the exemption. The difference in name means Colorado would still require a license for Round 2028’s Nationwide Remote Item Delivery Program.
